Google wants to remove Chrome Apps


Chrome Apps, it's over soon. Google plans to give up Chromebook except for its range.


(CCM) - Google announced the gradual disappearance of the applications of its Chrome browser by the end of this year on all operating systems, except for Chrome OS. From the end of 2016, there will be new applications available for Windows, Mac and Linux Chrome Store. Applications will not be available by the second half of 2017. In return, Google will offer more extensions and themes for the browser.

It is on the Chromium blog , the project at the base of Chrome, the reasons for this drop are given: "There are two kinds of apps Chrome: integrated apps and hosted apps. today only 1% of users on Windows, Mac and Linux are actively using integrated apps and most of hosted apps are already available as Web applications. " Google does not therefore see the point of continuing this activity and encourages developers to spend their Chrome web app to app, accessible everywhere.

Chrome applications already installed and used however still continue to work to be updated, at least until 2018. The time for developers to modify their apps and users to move on. However, Google will keep the apps on Chrome OS as they are essential.
